George Nisbet Marten (born June 20, 1840 – died August 25, 1905) was an English cricketer. He played in a special type of cricket called first-class cricket.

Early Life and Education
George Nisbet Marten was born in Ghazeepoor, which was part of British India, on June 20, 1840. His father was Thomas Powney Marten.
George moved to England for his education. He attended Harrow School, a well-known school. After that, he went to Pembroke College, Oxford University.
Military Service
While studying at Oxford, George Marten joined the military. In March 1861, he became a lieutenant in the Hertfordshire Militia. This was a local army group. Later, in March 1866, he was promoted to captain.
Cricket Career
George Marten was a right-handed batsman. He played in four first-class cricket matches. First-class cricket is the highest level of domestic cricket.
Playing for MCC
In 1864, a year after finishing Oxford, Marten played his first first-class match. He played for the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) against Middlesex. This game took place at Lord's, a famous cricket ground.
Other Matches
In 1865, he played for the Gentlemen of England team. They played against the Gentlemen of Middlesex.
His last two first-class matches were in 1869. He played for the MCC again. One match was against Oxford University at Lord's. The other was against Hampshire in Southampton.

Later Life and Family
Around 1872, George Marten moved to Australia. He lived on a large farm called Branscombe Plantation near Mackay, Queensland.

George Marten passed away in Crowborough, England, in June 1905. His uncle, George Marten, was also a first-class cricketer.
