George Onslow served in the British Parliament. He was a Member of Parliament (MP) for different areas.
- From 1754 to 1761, he was an MP for Rye.
- From 1761 to 1774, he represented Surrey.
He also held important government jobs.
- From 1765 to 1777, he worked as a junior Lord of the Treasury. This meant he helped manage the country's money.
- After that, he became the Comptroller of the Household. Then he was the Treasurer of the Household. These roles involved managing the royal household's finances.
His Military Role
George Onslow also had a military career.
- In 1759, he became a Lieutenant-Colonel in the 1st Royal Surrey Militia. The militia was like a local army.
- Later that year, he was promoted to Colonel. He commanded one of the Surrey Militia battalions.
- He stopped his military command in 1765. This was because he became a government minister.
