George Ramsay, 8th Earl of Dalhousie (born 1730 – died 15 November 1787) was an important Scottish noble. He held several key roles in Scotland during his lifetime. He served as a government official called a Lord of Police from 1775 to 1782. He was also the King's special representative to the main meeting of the Church of Scotland, known as the Lord High Commissioner to the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland. From 1774 to 1787, he was chosen by other Scottish nobles to represent them in the British Parliament as a representative Scottish peer.

George Ramsay was the second son of George, Lord Ramsay. His grandfather was William Ramsay, 6th Earl of Dalhousie. His mother, Jean Maule, was from the Maule family. Her uncle, the Earl of Panmure, had lost his noble title. George Ramsay later inherited the Maule family's lands and properties.

Family Life

George Ramsay married Elizabeth Glen on 30 July 1767. They had 12 children together.
