George Stevenson (priest) facts for kids
George Stevenson (born August 7, 1763; died April 5, 1825) was an important Anglican priest in Ireland during the 1800s. He also earned a special university degree called LL.D., which means "Doctor of Laws."
Early Life and Education
George Stevenson was born in a town called Egham, which is in England. When he was older, he went to a famous university, King's College, Cambridge, to study. This education helped him prepare for his future work.
A Career in the Church
Teaching and Ministry
Stevenson began his career as an assistant master (a type of teacher) at Eton, a very well-known school. He worked there from 1788 to 1796. After his time at Eton, he became a Rector in 1796. A Rector is a priest who is in charge of a church and its local area. His church was St James Garlickhythe in the big city of London.
Becoming a Dean
Later in his life, in 1802, George Stevenson became the Dean of Kilfenora. A Dean is a senior leader in the Anglican Church, overseeing a group of churches or a cathedral. He held this important position until he passed away in 1825.
