The George Washington Noyes House is a special old home located in Gorham, New Hampshire. It was finished in 1893. This house is a great example of a building style called Queen Anne architecture. It's so important that it was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2016. It was also listed on the New Hampshire State Register of Historic Places that same year.

About the Noyes House

The George Washington Noyes House sits on a small hill. This hill is known as Soldier's Hill. From here, you can see the Androscoggin River. The house is on Prospect Terrace, a short road with other old homes.

The house has 2-1/2 stories. It has a fancy roof with many gables. The outside walls are made of wooden clapboards and decorative shingles. It looks uneven, which is typical for Queen Anne style homes. It has different parts that stick out and dormer windows.

Special Features of the House

A round tower stands on one corner of the house. This tower has three stories. It has a unique roof with an iron railing at the top. A porch wraps around the front and side of the house. It has pretty turned posts and railings. Inside, the house still has many original details. These include beautiful woodwork and stained glass windows.

History of the Noyes House

The house was built between 1891 and 1893. This was after a big fire in Gorham in 1879. The home was built for George Washington Noyes. He worked for the Grand Trunk Railroad.

Mr. Noyes started as a simple laborer. He worked his way up to become a master mechanic. His house is one of three homes built on Soldier's Hill after the fire. All three houses are still standing today. The property also has a well-kept carriage barn. It still has its original parts and finishes.
