George Wassouf (born December 23, 1961) is a famous singer from Syria. He has been singing for over 40 years and has released more than 30 albums. He has many fans across the Arab world. People call him Sultan El-Tarab, which means "The Sultan of Music." He is one of the most successful Arab singers, having sold over 60 million records around the world.

George Wassouf's Early Life and Career
George Wassouf was born in Kafroun, Syria. His family was Greek Orthodox Christian. He started singing when he was just 10 years old in his hometown. When he was 12, a manager named George Yazbeck discovered him singing at a wedding party.
At 16, a Lebanese journalist named George Ibrahim El Khoury gave him the nickname Sultan El-Tarab. This happened after George Wassouf sang his famous song "el-Hawa Sultan." By the time he was 19, he appeared on a Lebanese TV show called Studio El Fan in 1980, still known as Sultan of Tarab. George Wassouf also has Lebanese citizenship.
He has said that he prefers not to make music videos for his songs. He feels most comfortable singing live on stage, not acting in videos.
George Wassouf's Family Life
George Wassouf married his first wife, Shalimar, when he was 21. They had three sons: Wadih, Hatem, and George Jr. They were married for 28 years before they separated in 2009. Sadly, their oldest son, Wadih, passed away in January 2023 due to health problems.
In 2014, George Wassouf married Nada Zeidan, who was a rally champion from Qatar. They had a daughter named Oyoon, who was born in October 2015. They divorced in 2016.
