The Arab world

The Arab world (called al-`alam al-`arabi in Arabic) is a group of countries where most people speak the Arabic language. These countries stretch across a huge area. They go from the Atlantic Ocean in the west to the Arabian Sea in the east. They also go from the Mediterranean Sea in the north down to the Horn of Africa and the Indian Ocean in the southeast. There are about 24 countries and territories in the Arab world. Over 325 million people live there. It covers a massive land area across two continents.

Cairo in Egypt is one of the largest cities in the Arab world. It has a population of over 16 million people. Cairo is a very old city, founded in 969 AD. Another major city is Baghdad in Iraq, which was founded even earlier in 762 AD. Riyadh in Saudi Arabia is also a huge city. It has a population of over 6 million people.

Other important cities include Khartoum in Sudan and Amman in Jordan. Alexandria in Egypt is famous for its ancient history. Dubai in the United Arab Emirates is a modern city known for its tall buildings. These cities show the rich history and modern growth of the Arab world.
