Georgeta Damian (married name Andrunache) is a super successful rower from Romania. She was born on April 14, 1976, in Botoșani. Georgeta is famous for winning five Olympic gold medals, which is a huge achievement! In 2006, she married another rower named Valeriu Andrunache.

Georgeta's Amazing Rowing Career
Georgeta Damian started making a name for herself in the sport of rowing very early. She was part of the Romanian Women's eight team. This team won the World Rowing Championships three years in a row: in 1997, 1998, and 1999.
Olympic Gold Medals
Georgeta's biggest successes came at the Summer Olympics.
- At the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, she won two gold medals! She won gold with the Women's eight team. She also won gold in the Women's pairs event.
- She continued her winning streak at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens. There, she again won two gold medals. She took gold in both the pairs and the eights events.
- Her fifth Olympic gold medal came at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing. She won gold in the women's pairs with her teammate Viorica Susanu. In the same Olympics, she also earned a bronze medal with the eights team.
World Championship Wins
Besides her Olympic triumphs, Georgeta also had many victories at the World Championships.
- After her first three wins with the Women's eight team (1997, 1998, 1999), she continued to shine.
- In 2001 and 2002, she and Viorica Susanu won the World Championships in the pairs event.
- She also won a gold medal in the eight in 1997.
- She earned silver medals in the pairs in 1997 and in the eight in 2001, 2003, and 2007.
- She also got bronze medals in the pairs in 2003 and 2007.
European Championship Success
Georgeta also achieved great success at the European Rowing Championships.
- In 2007, she won a gold medal in the eight event in Poznań.
- She won another gold in the coxless pair in 2008 in Marathon.
- Her final gold medal at the European Championships was in 2012, in the eight event in Varese.
