Georgetown is a small, quiet place in Pettis County, Missouri, in the United States. It's known as an unincorporated community. This means it's a group of homes and buildings that doesn't have its own local government, like a city or town would. Instead, it's governed by the county.

You can find Georgetown about one mile west of US Route 65 on Missouri Route H. It's also just three miles north of a larger city called Sedalia.

History of Georgetown

Georgetown has a history that goes back almost 200 years! It was officially planned out, or platted, in 1833. When a place is platted, it means someone drew up a map showing where streets, lots, and public areas would be.

How Georgetown Got Its Name

The community was named after Georgetown, Kentucky. This was the original home of one of the very first settlers who came to this area. It was common for early settlers to name new places after their hometowns.

The Old Post Office

A post office opened in Georgetown in 1837. This was a really important event for the community! Back then, post offices were vital for people to send and receive letters, news, and packages. It helped connect Georgetown residents to the rest of the country. The post office served the community for many years, finally closing its doors in 1921.
