Early Life and Family

Georgiana Margaretta Zornlin was born in 1800. Her father, John Jacob Zornlin, was a merchant from London with Swiss family roots. Her mother was Elizabeth Alsager. Georgiana had a sister named Rosina Zornlin, who was also a writer, focusing on science topics.

Becoming an Artist

Georgiana showed her artistic talent early on. In 1821, she created some of her first lithographs. These were prints of places like Christchurch, Hampshire, made with the help of Joseph Netherclift. A lithograph is a special kind of print made from a stone or metal plate.

In the 1820s, Georgiana studied art with a famous painter named Benjamin Robert Haydon. He was a well-known artist of his time. Learning from him helped Georgiana develop her own artistic skills.
