Gerald Lee McRaney (born August 19, 1947) is an American actor. He is famous for his roles in TV shows like Simon & Simon, Major Dad, and Promised Land. He also appeared in House of Cards and NCIS: Los Angeles.

Gerald McRaney was born in Collins, Mississippi. His parents were Clyde and Edna McRaney. He has a mix of Scottish and Choctaw family background.
He went to college at the University of Mississippi. Before becoming a successful actor, McRaney worked in the oil fields of Louisiana.

McRaney is a big supporter of veterans and soldiers. Even though he was not in the military himself, he has visited troops many times. He went to support soldiers during Operation Desert Storm. He also visited troops in Somalia and Haiti.
He has worked with the Department of Veterans Affairs. He also appeared in commercials for the Wounded Warrior Project. This group helps injured service members.
In 2004, McRaney had surgery for lung cancer. The surgery was successful.
Political Views
McRaney has shared his political views over the years. He supported Republican President George H. W. Bush in 1992. He said he had been a Democrat for most of his life but decided to become a Republican. His first vote for president was for Democrat Hubert Humphrey in 1968.
