Geraldine Bey de Haas (born 1935) is an amazing American jazz singer and someone who organizes big music events. She has spent her life sharing the joy of jazz music with many people.
Geraldine started her music journey performing with her brother, Andy Bey, and her sister, Salome Bey. They were a talented singing group called Andy and the Bey Sisters in the 1960s. After that, she married Eddie de Haas, and they moved to Chicago in 1968.
A Champion for Jazz Music
In 1974, Geraldine had a brilliant idea. She created a special event called the Duke Ellington Celebration in Grant Park in Chicago. This celebration was so popular that it grew into something even bigger: the famous Chicago Jazz Festival!
But Geraldine didn't stop there. She also organized many other concerts and created chances for young musicians to perform. In 1981, she even started another jazz festival at the South Shore Cultural Center. She truly loves helping new artists find their voice.
Family and Music
Geraldine and her husband, Eddie de Haas, who is a bassist (plays the bass guitar), have two children. Their names are Aisha and Darius. Guess what? Both of their children are also singers! Darius has even performed in popular Broadway musicals.
