The Story of Gerled
Gerled got its name in a very clever way! It was created by combining parts of the names of two nearby areas. These areas were German Township and Ledyard Township.
Early Days and Communication
A special building called a post office was opened in Gerled in 1902. This post office helped people send and receive letters and packages. It was an important part of daily life for the community. The post office served the people of Gerled for many years. It finally closed its doors in 1951.
Population in the Past
In 1925, a count was taken of the people living in Gerled. At that time, the community had a population of 27 residents. This shows that Gerled has always been a very small place.
