Gert Voss (born October 10, 1941 – died July 13, 2014) was a famous German actor. He was well-known for his amazing acting in movies like Labyrinth of Lies (2014) and Sometime in August (2009). He was also a very important member of the Burgtheater in Vienna, which is a famous theater.
Gert Voss's Early Life
Gert Voss was born in Shanghai, China. His father, Wilhelm Voss, was a merchant, and his mother was Marion Voss. He lived in China until 1948. Then, his family moved to a home near Lake Constance in Germany.
Gert Voss started studying German and English at the University of Tübingen. However, he soon realized his true passion was acting. He stopped his university studies after passing an acting test. From 1964 to 1966, he took private acting lessons to improve his skills. After this, he began his first jobs in theater.
Becoming a Stage Star
Gert Voss started his acting career at smaller theaters. These included the Stadttheater Konstanz and the Staatstheater Braunschweig. He also performed at the Residenztheater in Munich. A theater director named Hans Peter Doll noticed his talent.
Voss then moved to the State Theater in Stuttgart. Later, he joined director Claus Peymann at the Schauspielhaus Bochum. In 1983, he became famous for his role as Hermann in Die Hermannsschlacht. This performance was shown at the 20th Berliner Theatertreffen, a big theater festival.
In 1986, Voss moved with Peymann to the Burgtheater in Vienna, Austria. The Burgtheater is one of the most important German-speaking theaters. That same year, he played the main role in Richard III. At first, some people in Vienna were not sure about him and Peymann. However, Voss soon became a beloved actor there.
He also starred in a play called Ritter, Dene, VossIgnaz Kirchner. They performed in both classic plays and funny dark comedies.
