Gethin Davies (born September 18, 1846 – died March 17, 1896) was an important Welsh leader. He was a Baptist minister and also the head of a college. Early Life and Education
Gethin Davies went to Havod British school when he was young. He learned a lot there. He also worked at the school for five years as a pupil-teacher. This meant he helped teach younger students while still learning himself.
In 1864, Gethin moved to study at Graig House Academy in Swansea. This was another step in his education. Two years later, in 1866, he went to Bristol Baptist College. Here, he studied to become a Baptist minister.
A Leader in the Baptist Church
In 1872, Gethin Davies became a Classical Tutor at Llangollen Baptist College. This meant he taught subjects like ancient languages and history. He worked hard to help Baptist churches in North Wales. He wanted to make them stronger and more active.
Moving the College
Gethin Davies played a big part in moving the Baptist College. It was originally in Llangollen. He helped move it to Bangor in 1892. This was an important change for the college.
His Writings
Gethin Davies also enjoyed writing. He used the pen name ‘Gethin Dulais’. He wrote poems for Welsh magazines and newspapers. He also wrote several Welsh hymns. Hymns are songs of praise often sung in churches.
Later Life and Legacy
Gethin Davies passed away in London in 1896. He was 49 years old. He is remembered for his dedication to the Baptist church in Wales. He helped many churches and played a key role in the college's history.
