About the Giant Eagle LPGA Classic

Tournament History

The tournament started in 1990 and had a few different names over the years. When it first began, from 1990 to 1992, it was called The Phar-Mor in Youngstown. During these early years, golfers played at the Squaw Creek Country Club in Vienna Township, Ohio.

In 1993, the tournament changed its name to the Youngstown-Warren LPGA Classic. It moved to a new location, the Avalon Lakes Golf Club in Warren, Ohio, and stayed there until the year 2000.

A grocery store chain called Giant Eagle, which is based in Pittsburgh, became the main sponsor of the tournament in 1997. This is why the tournament later became known as the Giant Eagle LPGA Classic. In 2001, the event returned to the Squaw Creek Country Club. The very last tournament was held in 2004.
