Gibson is a small place in Monroe County, Mississippi. It's what we call an unincorporated community. This means it's a group of homes and businesses that isn't officially a town or city with its own local government. Gibson is located west of a town called Aberdeen, right along Mississippi Highway 8.
A Look Back at Gibson
Gibson has a bit of history, even though it's a small community. It was once located along the Kansas City Southern Railway. This railway was important for moving goods and people.
Businesses and People
Back in 1924, Gibson had a few important businesses. There were two general stores, which sold all sorts of everyday items. There was also a drugstore, where people could get medicines and other health products.
In the year 1900, Gibson was a very tiny place. Only 27 people lived there at that time.
The Post Office
For many years, Gibson had its own post office. It started operating in 1889. This post office helped people send and receive letters and packages. It stayed open for a long time, finally closing its doors in 1979.
