Gifford is a small village located in Champaign County, Illinois, in the United States. It's a quiet place where about 911 people lived according to the 2020 Census.

History of Gifford Village
Gifford was officially started in 1876. It was named after a person called Benjamin F. Gifford. Long ago, the village had a train station that was part of the Illinois Central Railroad. This train line is not used anymore.
Major Events in Gifford's Past
On August 9, 1894, a big fire started in a barbershop and billiard hall. The fire spread quickly and burned down the entire business area of the village. Even the large building where grain was stored was completely destroyed.
Another important event happened on November 17, 2013. A very strong tornado hit Gifford. It was an EF3 tornado, which means it was quite powerful. The tornado struck just before 1:00 PM. It went diagonally through the middle of the village. More than 20 homes were completely destroyed, and about 200 other homes were damaged. Luckily, no one was seriously hurt during this event.
