Giles Brugge grew up in a noble family. His father, Thomas Brugge, was the 5th Baron Chandos. This title meant he was a powerful landowner and had influence in England. Giles married Isabel Baynham. Her parents were Thomas Baynham and Alice Walwyn.
Life and Achievements
Giles Brugge was a knight and served his country. He took part in a famous battle called the Battle of Blackheath. This battle happened on June 22, 1497. Giles showed great bravery during the fight. Because of his courage, he was made a knight.
He also held an important job called High Sheriff of Gloucestershire in 1499. A High Sheriff was a royal officer. They were in charge of keeping law and order in their county. They also helped with elections and collecting taxes.
His Children
Giles and Isabel had several children. They continued the family name and legacy. Their children included:
- Sir John Brydges, 1st Baron Chandos of Sudeley (born March 9, 1491/2 – died April 12, 1557). He later married Elizabeth Grey.
- Thomas Brydges of Cornbury and Keinsham Abbey. He also served as Sheriff for Gloucestershire, and later for Berkshire and Oxfordshire. He died on November 14, 1559.
- William Brugge. He inherited land from his father in Brakenborowe and Horton.
- Catherine Brugge (died 1556). She married Leonard Poole of Saperton, who worked for the king. After Leonard died, she married Sir David Brooke of Horton.
