Gilmore is a small, unincorporated community located in Sarpy County, Nebraska, in the United States. An "unincorporated community" means it's a place where people live, but it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town. Instead, it's part of the larger county.
Gilmore's History
Gilmore began as a small community because of the railroads. In the past, railroads were super important for moving goods and people across the country. Many towns grew up around train stops and lines.
A post office was opened in Gilmore in 1869. Having a post office was a big deal for communities back then, as it meant people could easily send and receive mail. The post office served the community for many years before it closed in 1908. The community itself was named after an important official from the railroad company, showing how much the railway influenced its early days.
