Gilmore is a small, unincorporated community located in Washington Township, within Tuscarawas County, Ohio. It sits just south of the village of Gnadenhutten. Gilmore is found along Tuscarawas County Road 10, also known as Gilmore Road. It's also where Tuscarawas County Road 14 (River Hill and Fallen Timber Roads) crosses, right at the heart of Gilmore.

Gilmore's History

The community of Gilmore was officially planned out and marked on a map in 1848. It was named after Nathaniel Gilmore, who was one of the first settlers in the area. A post office was opened in Gilmore in 1854. This post office served the community for many years, finally closing its doors in 1950.

A Baseball Legend: Cy Young

Gilmore is famous for being the birthplace of a true baseball legend, Cy Young. He was an incredible pitcher who is now in the Baseball Hall of Fame. The prestigious Cy Young Award is named after him. This award is given every year to the best pitcher in both the American League and the National League in Major League Baseball.
