Gina Ravera is an American actress born on May 20, 1966. She has appeared in several movies and TV shows. Some of her well-known roles include the film Soul Food (1997) and Kiss the Girls (1997). She also played Detective Irene Daniels in the TV crime series The Closer from 2005 to 2009.

Gina Ravera was born in San Francisco, California. She has a mixed background, with both African-American and Puerto Rican heritage. Before becoming an actress, she trained as a classical dancer.

Early Acting Roles

In the early 1990s, Gina Ravera started getting guest roles on popular TV shows. These included The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, Melrose Place, and Star Trek: The Next Generation. From 1993 to 1994, she was part of the cast of the CBS crime series Silk Stalkings.

She also appeared in movies like the comedy-drama Soul Food in 1997. Later, she continued to work in television. She had regular roles in TV movies and series. From 1999 to 2000, she was a main cast member in Time of Your Life. This show was a spin-off from the popular teen drama Party of Five.

Becoming a TV Star

From 2005 to 2009, Gina Ravera played Detective Irene Daniels. This was in the TNT crime drama series The Closer. She was a main character for four seasons. She was the only regular cast member to leave the show during its run.

Between 2006 and 2008, she also had a repeating role on the medical drama ER. In 2007, she acted alongside Denzel Washington in the movie The Great Debaters. In this film, she played his character's wife.
