The Imagen Awards are special prizes given out by the Imagen Foundation. This group works to celebrate and encourage positive ways that Latino people are shown in movies and TV shows. To get an Imagen Award, a movie, TV show, or person has to go through an entry process. Helen Hernandez is the president of the Imagen Foundation.

History of the Imagen Awards
In 1983, Helen Hernandez met with Norman Lear. He was a famous writer and producer for television. Mr. Lear knew that Latino people were not often shown in a good way in entertainment. He understood how important it was to see positive images.
So, Helen Hernandez and Norman Lear met with leaders from the National Conference for Community and Justice. This group helps fight against prejudice and unfairness. Together, they created the Imagen Foundation Awards competition. The first awards were given out in 1985.
Many famous people in entertainment have received these awards. Some past honorees include Andy García, Antonio Banderas, Edward James Olmos, Rita Moreno, Jennifer Lopez, and Selena Gomez.
