Ginette Aumassip was a French scientist who studied the Earth (a geologist) and ancient times in Africa (a specialist in African prehistory). She used to lead a special lab that researched Africa. This lab was part of a big French science organization called CNRS.

Ginette Aumassip taught about ancient African history at different universities. From 1970 to 1986, she also managed a science magazine called Libyca. Living in Algiers, she also looked into where the first people in Algeria came from.

Ginette Aumassip did a lot of archaeological work in the Sahara desert. Archaeology is like being a detective for the past, digging up clues left by people long ago. She led big digs in places like the Bas Sahara and Tassili n'Ajjer.
