Gings is a small, quiet place in Indiana, United States. It's known as an "unincorporated community," which means it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town. Instead, it's part of a larger area called Union Township in Rush County.
About Gings
Gings is located in the state of Indiana. It is found in Rush County, specifically within Union Township. An unincorporated community is a place where people live together but it is not officially a city or town. This means it is governed by the larger county or township.
Its History
Gings was officially planned and mapped out in 1870. This process is called "platting." The community was named after its founder, a man named Michael Ging.
Before it was called Gings, this community had another name: Star. A post office was first opened here in 1853 under the name Star. Later, in 1890, its name was changed to Gings. The post office continued to serve the community until it closed down in 1905.
