Giorgos Muzakis (born in Athens, Greece, on August 15, 1922 – died August 27, 2005) was a very talented Greek trumpet player and a famous music composer. He was known for creating many popular songs and music for plays and movies.
His Musical Career
Giorgos Muzakis was born in a neighborhood of Athens called Metaxourgeio. He started playing the trumpet professionally in 1938. His first music album was recorded in 1946. He loved learning about music and studied at the Athens Conservatoire from 1939 to 1947. Later, he continued his music studies in Austria and Germany between 1952 and 1954.
A Prolific Composer
Giorgos Muzakis was a very busy and creative composer. He wrote around 2,500 songs and tunes! His music was influenced by different styles like tango, bolero, and bossa nova. He composed music for many different things, including:

- 20 musical comedies
- About 60 films
Some of his most famous songs include "The Slave Woman" (Η Σκλάβα), "My Weakness" (Αδυναμία μου), "A friend from the past" (Ένας φίλος ήρθε από τα παλιά), and "I whistle to you" (Σου σφυρίζω). He also composed "The Hymn of Panathinaikos", which is a well-known song for the Panathinaikos sports club.
Performances and Recognition
Giorgos Muzakis was a member of important music groups like the Greek Composers' Society and the National Music Association. He performed his music in many places, both in Greece and in other countries. He traveled to America, Australia, Bulgaria, Canada, Poland, and Romania to share his music. In 2003, he received a special award from the President of Greece for his contributions to music.
