Giovanni Agostino da Lodi was an Italian painter. He created art from about 1495 to 1525. He is known for his beautiful religious paintings.
Discovering His Art
For a long time, it was hard to know which paintings were truly by Giovanni Agostino da Lodi. An art expert named Bernard Berenson helped figure out his unique painting style. This helped people identify his works.
One of his first known paintings is the Pala dei Barcaioli. This means "Boatmen Altarpiece." You can find it in the church of San Pietro Martire in Murano, Italy.
Giovanni Agostino da Lodi signed only one of his paintings. This special work is called St. Peter and St. John the Evangelist. It is kept in the Pinacoteca di Brera art gallery. This painting shows ideas from artists in the Lombardy region, like Bramantino.
His Artistic Journey
Later in his career, Giovanni Agostino da Lodi was inspired by the famous artist Leonardo da Vinci. You can see this influence in his painting Christ Washing the Feet of the Apostles. This artwork is in the Gallerie dell'Accademia in Venice.
After a ruler named Ludovico Sforza lost power, Giovanni Agostino moved to Venice. He later returned to Milan in 1506. He then painted for private collectors and for the Certosa di Pavia. One of his later works is called Calvary. It is displayed in the National Gallery in Prague.
He also worked with another artist, Marco d'Oggiono. They created a large painting with many panels for a church in Milan. Some parts of this painting are now in the Pinacoteca di Brera.
