Giovanni Mirabassi is a talented jazz pianist from Italy. He was born on May 4, 1970, in Perugia. He lives and works in Paris, France. Giovanni taught himself how to play the piano. He learned by listening to famous jazz musicians like Bud Powell, Art Tatum, and Oscar Peterson. Another important influence for him was Enrico Pieranunzi. When he was seventeen, he played with jazz legends like Chet Baker and Steve Grossman. He moved to Paris in 1992.

Early Success

In 1996, Giovanni recorded his very first album. He worked with Pierre-Stéphane Michel on bass and Flavio Boltro on trumpet. This album helped him win big awards. He received the grand prix and the best soloist prize. These awards were given at the International Jazz Competition in Avignon, France. The famous drummer Daniel Humair was in charge of the competition.

Solo Albums and Growing Fame

In 2001, Giovanni Mirabassi released his first solo album. It was called Avanti!. This album was a collection of songs about revolutions. He had been thinking about these songs for many years. Avanti! was a very important step in his music career. He won the Django d’Or award for best young talent. He also received a Victoires du Jazz award in 2002.

After this success, Giovanni started touring regularly. He performed both alone and with his trio. He became very popular, especially in Japan.

More Music and Unique Style

In 2005, Giovanni released a new CD called Prima o poi. This album featured his trio and a quartet (a group of four musicians). A year later, he released another special record. It was called Cantopiano. This album featured classic French songs. It brought together his two favorite types of music. Both Prima o poi and Cantopiano were loved by fans and critics. These albums showed his unique place in the jazz world.

Over ten years, Giovanni Mirabassi created many CDs and DVDs. Some of his concert recordings were released only in Japan. He has performed all over the world, sharing his music with many people.
