Giovanni Mirabassi is a talented jazz pianist from Italy. He was born on May 4, 1970, in Perugia. Today, he lives and works in Paris, France.

Giovanni taught himself how to play the piano. He learned by listening to famous jazz musicians. Some of his biggest inspirations were Bud Powell, Art Tatum, and Oscar Peterson. He was also greatly influenced by Enrico Pieranunzi.

When he was just 17, Giovanni played with jazz legends. He performed with Chet Baker in 1987. He also played with Steve Grossman in 1988. In 1992, he moved to Paris to continue his music career.

Early Success and Awards

In 1996, Giovanni recorded his very first album. He worked with Pierre-Stéphane Michel on bass. Flavio Boltro played the trumpet on this album. This recording helped him win big awards. He won the grand prix and the best soloist prize. This happened at the Concours International de Jazz d'Avignon. A famous musician named Daniel Humair was in charge of the competition.

In 2001, Giovanni Mirabassi released his first solo album. It was called Avanti!. This album was a collection of songs about revolutions. He had been thinking about these songs for many years. Avanti! was a very important step in his career. He won the Django d’Or award for best young talent. He also won a Victoire du Jazz award in 2002.

After these awards, Giovanni started touring a lot. He performed all over the world. Sometimes he played alone, and sometimes with his trio. He became very popular, especially in Japan.

Later Albums and Musical Style

In 2005, Giovanni released a new CD called Prima o poi. This album featured his trio and a quartet. It was released on the Minium label. A year later, he released another special record. It was called Cantopiano. This album featured popular French songs. It brought together his two favorite types of music. These two CDs were loved by both the public and music critics. They showed his unique place in the world of jazz music.

Over ten years, Giovanni Mirabassi has created many CDs and DVDs. Some of his concert DVDs were only released in Japan. He has performed his music all around the world.
