Girdner is located in the middle part of Douglas County, southeast of a town called Ava. You can find it along Missouri Route P and near the north side of Rippee Creek, which is a small river that flows into Bryant Creek.
About Girdner
Girdner is located in the beautiful Ozark Mountains region of Missouri. It sits at an elevation of about 320 meters (around 1,050 feet) above sea level. While it doesn't have a large population today, it's an important part of the local history of Douglas County.
A Look Back: Girdner's History
Girdner got its start a long time ago, in the year 1885. That's when a post office was opened there. A post office is a place where people can send and receive mail. Having a post office was a big deal back then because it meant the community was growing and needed a way to connect with other places.
The Girdner post office stayed open for many years, helping people send letters and packages until 1942. The community itself was named after a person known as "Doc" Girdner. He was a "pioneer citizen," which means he was one of the very first people to settle and live in that area. Pioneers helped build new communities and were very important to the early development of places like Girdner.
Even though the post office is no longer there, the name Girdner lives on, reminding us of its past and the people who helped create it.
