Giro (Kiro) Manoyan (Armenian: Կիրօ Մանոյեան) is an Armenian politician. He is one of the main leaders of a political group called ARF Dashnaktsutiun and is in charge of their Armenian Cause Office. This office works to support Armenian interests around the world.

Early Life and Education

Giro Manoyan was born in Beirut, Lebanon, in 1962. When he was 14, in 1976, he moved to Montreal, Quebec, Canada, with his family.

He later went to Concordia University in Montreal, Quebec. There, he studied Political Science, which is about how governments work and how people make decisions in society.

Working in Media and Politics

In the 1980s, Mr. Manoyan became the executive director of the Armenian National Committee of Canada. This group works to represent Armenian people in Canada.

From 1989 to 1999, he was part of the team that managed the Horizon Weekly Armenian newspaper in Montreal. For eight of those years, from 1991 to 1999, he was the main editor of the newspaper.

In 1999, he moved to Yerevan, Armenia. Since 2000, he has been the Director of the International Secretariat for the Armenian Revolutionary Federation Bureau. This means he helps lead the international work of the ARF political group. In 2015, he was chosen to be a member of the ARF Bureau at their big meeting, called the 32nd World Congress.

Important Work and Awards

On April 23, 2011, Mr. Manoyan was chosen to be part of a special group in Armenia. This group, called the State Commission, planned events to remember a very important historical event for Armenians that happened 100 years earlier. He was part of this commission because he led the ARF Armenian Cause Office.

For his hard work on this commission, he received two important awards:

  • On December 28, 2018, the President of Armenia, Serzh Sargsyan, gave him the Medal of Movses Khorenatsi.
  • On May 7, 2016, the president of the Artsakh Republic, Bako Sahakyan, gave him the "Vachagan Barepasht" medal. This was for his service to the Artsakh Republic.

International Meetings

Starting in December 2005, Giro Manoyan has represented the ARF political group at several meetings of the Socialist International. This is a worldwide organization of political parties that share similar ideas. He attended meetings in places like Baku in 2010 and Istanbul in 2013.
