His Life and Art
Girolamo Michelangelo Grigoletti was born in a town called Pordenone, Italy. His family was not rich, but his uncle, who was a priest, saw his talent for art. His uncle helped him enroll in a famous art school in Venice, called the Accademia di Belle Arti. There, he studied alongside other artists like Lodovico Lipparino.
Grigoletti became known for his beautiful paintings. Some of his most famous artworks include:
- Lucia at the feet of the Unnamed: This painting shows a scene from a famous Italian novel by Alessandro Manzoni called I Promesi Sposi.
- Erminia seeing Tancredi fall bleeding from his saddle
- Venetian doge Francesco Foscari bids farewell to his son Jacopo

Teacher and Mentor
Grigoletti was not only a great painter but also an important teacher. He became a professor at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Venice. Many students learned from him and later became famous artists themselves. Some of his well-known students were Giacomo Favretto, Cesare Dell'Acqua, Antonio Dugoni, Frederick Zandomeneghi, Tranquillo Cremona, Eugenio Prati, Gian Battista Carrer, and Eugenio Scomparini.
Today, a high school in his hometown of Pordenone is named after him: "Liceo Scientifico Statale Michelangelo Grigoletti." Grigoletti passed away in Venice when he was 68 years old.
