Gladys Carmagnola (born in 1939, died in 2015) was a famous Paraguayan poet and teacher. She is known as one of Paraguay's most important writers. Her poems were written for both children and adults.
Gladys was born in the city of Guarambaré, Paraguay, on January 2, 1939. Her parents were Ramona and Carlos Herrera Udrizar Carmagnola. She passed away on July 9, 2015.

Gladys's Early Life
Gladys grew up with her older brother Carlos, and her sisters Haydee and Selva. Even when she was a teenager, she loved poetry.
From a young age, she worked as a teacher. At the same time, she also spent a lot of time writing her beautiful poems.
Her Amazing Career
Gladys helped start the Society of Writers of Paraguay. She also helped create the group of Paraguayan Associated Writers and the Pen Club of Paraguay.
She was part of a special group of Paraguayan women writers who started publishing their work in the early 1960s. They became very important in Paraguayan literature.
Gladys started writing poetry for children first. Her very first book of poems for kids was called "Ojitos negros" (Little Black Eyes). It was published in April 1965.
Besides her many books, some of her poems have been included in collections and magazines. These were published both in Paraguay and in other countries.
