Glen Whisby Jr. (born June 29, 1972 – died September 21, 2017) was an American professional basketball player. He was 6 feet 8 inches tall and played as a center. He played college basketball at the University of Southern Mississippi.
College Basketball Career
Glen Whisby went to Brookhaven High School. After graduating, he played basketball for the Golden Eagles at the University of Southern Mississippi. He played there from 1991 to 1995.
During his time at Southern Miss, Whisby scored an average of 13.8 points per game. He is ninth on the school's all-time scoring list with 1,598 points. He was chosen for the All-Metro Conference team three times. He is also second in career blocks (222) for the Golden Eagles.
Professional Basketball Career
After college, Glen Whisby was picked by the Fort Wayne Fury in the 1995 Continental Basketball Association draft. However, he chose to play overseas instead. In 1995, he joined Gijón Baloncesto in Spain.
The next summer, he played for the Florida Sharks in the USBL. After that, he went back to Spain to play for Estudiantes. From 1998 to 1999, Whisby played for Pallacanestro Cantù in Italy. He then returned to Spain to play for Gijón again in 1999–2000. In 2000, he joined Aurora Basket Jesi in Italy.
In the 2000–01 season, Whisby played in Russia for UNICS. The next season (2001–02), he played in Turkey for Fenerbahçe. In 2002–03, he played for Polonia Warszawa in Poland and JDA Dijon Basket in France.
For the 2003–04 season, he moved to Tuborg Pilsener in Turkey. Then, he played one season in Italy for Basket Club Ferrara. He returned to Turkey in 2005–06 to play for Galatasaray. In 2006–07, he played in France for Hyeres-Toulon. In 2008, he played for Lappeenrannan NMKY in Finland. His last team was Basketbal Pezinok in Slovakia.
Life After Basketball
After he stopped playing, Glen Whisby worked as an assistant men's basketball coach. He coached at Seton Hill University during the 2014–15 season.
Glen Whisby passed away on September 21, 2017, when he was 45 years old.
