Glenn Naunton Davies (born in 1950) is an Australian Anglican bishop. A bishop is a senior leader in some Christian churches. Since August 2022, he has been the bishop of the Diocese of the Southern Cross. This is an Anglican church group that operates outside the main Anglican Church of Australia.
Before this, he served as the Archbishop of Sydney. He was also the leader for the Province of New South Wales within the Anglican Church of Australia. He held these important roles from August 23, 2013, until March 26, 2021.
Early Life and Education
Glenn Davies was born on September 26, 1950. He went to several schools and universities to get his education. He studied at Shore School and the University of Sydney in Australia. He also studied overseas at Westminster Theological Seminary and the University of Sheffield. He also attended Moore Theological College, which trains people for church leadership.
Becoming a Church Leader
Glenn Davies became a church leader, or was ordained, in 1981. His first role was as a curate at St Stephen's church in Willoughby. A curate is a junior priest who helps in a parish.
Later, he became a teacher, or lecturer, at Moore Theological College until 1995. After that, he was the rector of St Luke's church in Miranda. A rector is the main priest in charge of a church. He also served as a canon theologian for the Diocese of Ballarat. This means he was an expert in church teachings.
From 2002 to 2014, Glenn Davies was the Bishop of the North Region in Sydney. This meant he helped lead the churches in that area.
In 2013, many church members suggested he become the Archbishop of Sydney. He was chosen for this top leadership role on August 6, 2013. His special service to officially start his new job was held on August 23, 2013.
