Glezen is a small community located in Pike County, Indiana. It is part of Patoka Township. Glezen is known as a "Census designated place." This means it's an area that the U.S. Census Bureau tracks for population and other statistics, even though it's not an officially incorporated city or town.
The History of Glezen
Glezen has an interesting past! It was once known by a different name: Hosmer.
How Glezen Got Its Name
A person named Stephen R. Hosmer started the community in 1854. For a while, it was called Hosmer after him. In 1870, a post office opened there, also named Hosmer.
However, in 1883, the name of the community changed to Glezen. This new name came from the Glezen (or Glezon) family, who were early settlers in the area. The post office continued to serve the community until it closed in 1965.
