Glidden is a small community in Wisconsin, United States. It is also known as Chippewa Crossing. Glidden is located in Ashland County, within the town of Jacobs. You can find it near County Highway N and Wisconsin Highway 13. In 2010, about 507 people lived there.

Discovering Glidden's Past
Glidden got its name from Charles R. Glidden. He was one of the people who started the Wisconsin Central Railroad. The community grew up along this railway line.
The Famous Black Bear Capital
In 1963, something exciting happened near Glidden. A huge black bear was hunted in the area. It weighed 665 pounds (about 300 kg) and was 10 feet 7 inches (about 3.2 meters) tall! Because of this giant bear, the town decided to call itself the "Black Bear Capital of the World." Many local businesses even changed their names to include "Black Bear." The Glidden Public School also changed its mascot from the Viking to the Black Bear.
Marion Park Pavilion
The Marion Park Pavilion is an important building in Glidden. It was built in 1938 during the Great Depression. This building is so special that it is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Glidden is located at coordinates 46.1349525 degrees North and -90.5785090 degrees West. The U.S. Census Bureau says that Glidden covers an area of 2.151 square miles (about 5.57 square kilometers). All of this area is land, with no water.
Learning in Glidden
Children in Glidden attend schools that are part of the Chequamegon School District. This district was created for the 2009–10 school year.
Elementary and Middle School
Younger students, from elementary to middle school, go to the Glidden campus building. This campus used to be the Glidden School District. It served students from several nearby towns like Gordon, Jacobs, Peeksville, and Shanagolden. It also included parts of Namakagon and Spider Lake.
High School Education
When students are ready for high school, they attend Chequamegon High School. This high school is located in Park Falls, Wisconsin.
Glidden Public School Sports
Before the new district formed, Glidden Public School had its own sports teams. Their mascot was the Black Bear. From 2006 to 2009, they teamed up with the Butternut School District for sports. They even won championships in baseball in 2006 and softball in 2009!
