Glubbslyme is a fun fantasy novel written by the famous children's author Jacqueline Wilson. It was first published in 1987. The story is about a girl named Rebecca who discovers a magical toad and goes on an adventure.
The Story
The main character is a girl named Rebecca. She has a big argument with her best friend, Sarah. This fight happens because of Mandy, who is a very pretty and popular girl. Mandy can sometimes be quite mean to Rebecca. Both Rebecca and Mandy think that Sarah is their best friend, which causes a lot of tension.
One day, the three girls find a mysterious pond. Rebecca tries to impress Sarah by making up a story. She says it's a witch's pond where a witch once drowned. Sarah seems interested in Rebecca's tale.
Then, Mandy tries to get Sarah's attention. She says the pond isn't deep enough for someone to drown. Sarah agrees with Mandy. To prove her story, Rebecca steps into the pond. But Sarah leaves, calling Rebecca a baby.
While Rebecca is in the pond, a toad grabs her foot. Rebecca soon learns that this toad is Glubbslyme. He was the witch's special helper, known as a familiar. Glubbslyme has amazing magical powers!
Together, Rebecca and Glubbslyme decide to get back at some people. They plan revenge on Mr. Baker, a man who is often annoyed with Rebecca for ruining his flower beds. They also seek revenge on Mandy for being mean. In the end, Rebecca and Sarah manage to become friends again.
