Gō Ōiwa (大岩 剛, Ōiwa Gō, born 23 June 1972) is a Japanese football manager and former player. He is currently the manager of the Japan U23 national football team. He was born in Shizuoka, Japan.

Gō Ōiwa: A Football Legend

Gō Ōiwa is a well-known name in Japanese football. He had a long and successful career as a player. After retiring, he became a respected coach. He has led teams to big victories.

Playing Days: From Defender to Champion

Gō Ōiwa started his football journey in his hometown. He was born on June 23, 1972. After finishing university, he joined a professional team.

Early Career and First Wins

In 1995, Ōiwa joined Nagoya Grampus Eight. He quickly became a key player. He played as a central defender. His team won the Emperor's Cup twice. These wins were in 1995 and 1999. They also did well in Asian competitions.

Joining New Teams and Winning More Titles

In 2000, Ōiwa moved to Júbilo Iwata. With this team, he won the J1 League in 2002. He then joined Kashima Antlers in 2003. This team was a big rival of Júbilo. At Kashima, he continued to play as a strong defender.

Even as he played less often, his team achieved great success. Kashima Antlers won the J1 League three years in a row. These wins were from 2007 to 2009. They also won the Emperor's Cup in 2007 and 2010. Ōiwa retired from playing football at the end of 2010.

He also played for the Japan national team. He played three games for Japan in 2000. His first game was against Mexico on February 5, 2000.

Coaching Success: Leading Teams to Victory

After ending his playing career, Gō Ōiwa became a coach. He joined Kashima Antlers as an assistant coach in 2011. He worked hard and learned a lot.

Becoming a Manager and Winning in Asia

In May 2017, Ōiwa became the main manager for Kashima Antlers. He took over from Masatada Ishii. One of his biggest achievements was in 2018. He led Kashima Antlers to win the 2018 AFC Champions League. This is a very important club competition in Asia.

His team faced Persepolis in the final. Even with several injured players, Kashima Antlers won the first game. They then had a draw in the second game. This meant they won the championship!

He is now the manager of the Japan U23 national football team. He continues to guide young players.
