Early Life and Education
Godfrey Macdonald is the second child and oldest son of Alexander Macdonald, 7th Baron Macdonald, and his mother, Anne Whitaker. He went to a famous school in England called Eton College.
Becoming a Leader
When his father passed away in 1970, Godfrey Macdonald became the Baron Macdonald. This also meant he became the Chief of the Clan Donald. Being a "Baron" is a special title that means he is part of the nobility, a group of people with historical importance and sometimes land. As Chief, he is the traditional head of his family clan.
Lord Macdonald also helped his local community. He was an elected member of the Inverness-shire County Council from 1970 to 1975. A county council is like a local government group that makes decisions for the area. Later, he was part of the Skye and Lochalsh District Council from 1975 to 1983, helping to manage local affairs in that region of Scotland.
Family Life
On June 14, 1969, Godfrey Macdonald married Claire Catlow. She is well-known as a talented cook and a writer of cookbooks.
