The Goggin Ice Center, often called The Goggin, is a cool place for sports at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. It's a big building with lots of space for different activities. This center replaced an older ice arena that was also named Goggin.
The building is named after Lloyd Goggin. He was an important person at the university who helped build the first ice arena. The Goggin Ice Center has two main ice rinks. One is called "A Pad" or Steve Cady Arena. This is where the university's main hockey team, the RedHawks, plays. It's also home to the synchronized skating team. The other rink, "B Pad," is for fun skating and other activities. Many different groups use the Goggin. This includes youth hockey teams, high school teams, and university students playing broomball. They also offer hockey camps, skating lessons, and ice shows.

How the Goggin Ice Center Was Built
Before the current Goggin, Miami University had another ice arena from 1976 to 2006. In 2002, the university president, James Garland, decided to build a brand new arena. This new building would be in a different spot on campus.
Steve Cady, who started the university's hockey program, was put in charge of the new project. Many people helped make the new center possible. A former Miami hockey player named Tom Brown gave a lot of money to help build it. The Goggin Ice Center officially opened its doors on July 15, 2006.
Who is Steve Cady?
Steve Cady is a very important person in Miami University's hockey history. He was the first coach for the hockey team. Later, he became a senior athletic director. He played a big role in making sure the new ice arena was built. That's why the main rink is named after him!
Exploring Steve Cady Arena
Steve Cady Arena is the main ice rink, or "A Pad," inside the Goggin Ice Center. It has seats for 2,800 people. There are also special club-level seats and private boxes. If you include standing room, almost 4,000 people can watch a game here!
The arena also has a special area for reporters. This "press box" has seats for 18 people. There are even two booths for radio broadcasters. Inside the arena, you'll find many locker rooms. There are special ones for the varsity hockey and synchronized skating teams. Plus, there are 13 other locker rooms for all the other sports and activities.
Designing the Goggin
Two architecture companies, 360 Architecture and GBBN Architecture, worked together to design the Goggin Ice Center. It took a lot of hard work to build it. The project took 104 weeks to finish. Many people worked over 41,000 hours on it. It was one of the biggest building projects in the university's history. A large parking garage for 500 cars was also built next to the center.
Fun with Intramural Sports
The Goggin Ice Center is a popular spot for "intramural sports." These are sports leagues for students at the university. They play against each other, not against other schools. The Goggin offers different levels of intramural ice hockey. You can join a "Beginner," "Intermediate," "Advanced," or "Elite" league. These leagues run in the fall, winter, and spring.
Students can also play broomball, which is like hockey but you use a broom and a ball. There are leagues for men, women, and mixed teams. Every season, more than 500 teams sign up. That's over 8,000 students having fun!
Big Events at the Goggin
The Goggin Ice Center has hosted some exciting events. In March 2013, it was the home of the USA Broomball National Championships. Over 20 teams came to compete in seven different groups. The Miami University team won the college division! It was a thrilling event for all the players and fans.
