The Goggin Ice Center (often called The Goggin) is a big sports building in Oxford, Ohio. It's located on the Miami University campus. This center is used for many different sports and activities, especially those on ice!
It replaced an older building called the Goggin Ice Arena. Both buildings are named after Lloyd Goggin. He was a vice president at the university who helped build the first ice arena.
The Goggin Ice Center has two ice rinks. The main rink, called the "A Pad," is known as Steve Cady Arena. This is where the RedHawks hockey team plays. It's also home to the synchronized skating team. The other rink, the "B Pad," is used for fun recreational skating.
Many other activities happen here too. These include intramural hockey (sports played by students just for fun), broomball games, and youth hockey clubs. You can also find hockey camps, skating lessons, and ice shows at The Goggin.

Building History: How The Goggin Was Built
From 1976 to 2006, Miami University's ice sports were held at the old Goggin Ice Arena. In 2002, the university president, James Garland, decided to build a new, modern arena. This new building would be on a different part of the campus.
Steve Cady, who started the university's hockey program, was put in charge of the new ice arena project. The new building was made possible by generous donations. A big thank you goes to Tom Brown, a former Miami hockey goalie.
Steve Cady Arena: The Main Ice Rink
Steve Cady Arena is the main ice rink inside the Goggin Ice Center. It's also called the "A Pad." This arena has lots of seats for fans. There are 2,800 regular seats and 102 special club-level seats.
It also has 4 opera suites and 6 private boxes for groups. If you include standing-room-only spots, almost 4,000 people can watch events here! The arena also has a large dining area.
The club seating area and the press box have seats for reporters and broadcasters. There's room for two radio booths. The arena also has locker rooms for the varsity hockey and synchronized skating teams. Plus, there are 13 other locker areas for intramural and recreational sports teams.
Designing and Building The Goggin
The Goggin Ice Center was designed by two architecture companies: 360 Architecture and GBBN Architecture. It took 104 weeks to build, which is about two years! Over 41,000 hours of work went into the project.
It was one of the biggest and most challenging building projects in the university's history. As part of the project, a large parking garage was also built next to the center. It can hold 500 cars.
Intramural Sports: Fun for Students
The Goggin Ice Center is a popular spot for Miami University's intramural sports. These are sports leagues where students play against each other just for fun and exercise. The Goggin offers intramural ice hockey and broomball programs.
For ice hockey, there are different leagues for all skill levels. These include "Division 1," "Division 2," "Division 3," and "Almost Beginner" leagues. They play in the fall, winter, and spring seasons. There are also men’s, women’s, and co-ed broomball leagues each season. More than 500 teams, with over 8,000 students, sign up to play each year!
Big Events Hosted at The Goggin
The Goggin Ice Center has hosted some exciting events. In March 2013, it was the home of the USA Broomball National Championships. Over 20 teams came to compete in 7 different divisions.
The Miami University team, which was the host, won the collegiate division. It was a thrilling event for all the players and fans!
