Early Life and Beginnings
Goh Cheng Liang was born in Singapore. His parents were Wu Songchang and Li Xiuying.
He grew up with very little money. To help his family, he sold fishnets and worked with rubber to earn income.
Starting His Business
After World War II, Mr. Goh saw an opportunity. He started buying paint that the British army no longer needed. He then used this paint to start his own local company.
Building a Global Paint Company
In 1955, he opened his first paint shop in Singapore. Just a few years later, in 1962, his company became the main distributor for Nippon Paint in Singapore.
Expanding the Business
In 1974, Mr. Goh founded Wuthelam Holdings. This company became involved in both the paint business and building properties.
A Major Partnership
