Goh Cheng Liang (born in 1927) is a very successful businessman from Singapore. He started a big company called Wuthelam Holdings. This company makes paint and special coatings.
Early Life
Goh Cheng Liang was born in Singapore. His parents were Wu Songchang and Li Xiuying.
He grew up without much money. To help his family, he sold things like fishnets and rubber. After World War II ended, he saw a chance to start a business. He bought cheap paint from the British army and began selling it. This was the start of his own paint company.
Building a Paint Empire
In 1955, Goh Cheng Liang opened his first paint shop in Singapore. Later, in 1962, his company became the main seller for Nippon Paint in Singapore.
He founded Wuthelam Holdings in 1974. This company is involved in making paint and also in building properties.
In 2020, his son, Goh Hup Jin, helped make a big deal. This deal allowed Wuthelam Holdings to take control of Nippon Paint. This agreement added about $3.8 billion to Mr. Goh's total wealth. In 2024, the magazine Forbes said his wealth was about $12.7 billion. This makes him the second richest person in Singapore.
Giving Back and Family
Goh Cheng Liang lives in Singapore. He has a special organization called the Goh Foundation. This foundation has given a lot of money to help many different good causes.
He has a son named Goh Hup Jin. His son has been the chairman of Nippon Paint since March 2018. He also runs their joint business called Nipsea.
