Gohar Ali Khan is a Pakistani politician and a lawyer. He was born on 15 April 1971. He is currently the Chairman of the PTI political party. He has held this important role since December 2, 2023.
Mr. Khan is also a member of the National Assembly of Pakistan. He has been serving in this assembly since February 29, 2024. Before becoming Chairman, he was the PTI's chief election commissioner from July 2023 to November 2023. As a lawyer, Gohar Ali Khan has helped former Prime Minister Imran Khan with his legal cases.
Before joining PTI in 2022, he was part of the PPP for five years. He also took part in the Lawyers' Movement in 2007. This was a big protest movement by lawyers. They wanted a top judge, Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, to get his job back.

Early Life and Education
Gohar Ali Khan was born on October 10, 1971. His birthplace is Buner, in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. He comes from a Pashtun family of the Yusufzai tribe. His father, Abdur Rauf Khan, was also a politician. He served as a member of the Provincial Assembly two times. He was the first person from Buner to be a legislative member of Parliament.
Gohar Ali Khan has two older brothers and one younger brother. He moved to the United Kingdom to study law. In 1997, he started his law degree (LLB) at the University of Wolverhampton. In 2001, he became a qualified lawyer in England and Wales. He also earned a Master of Laws (LLM) degree in 2004. He got this degree from the University of Washington School of Law.
Legal Career
Gohar Ali Khan began his law career in Pakistan. He worked with a well-known lawyer, Aitzaz Ahsan. A big moment in his legal career was joining the Lawyers' Movement in 2007. He helped with the case to bring back Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry.
After joining the PTI, he worked on several important cases for the party. He also represented PTI in the Reserved seats case. He has experience with different types of court cases. He has appeared in Pakistan's highest courts.
Political Career
Pakistan People's Party (2004–2009)
Gohar Ali Khan first ran for the National Assembly of Pakistan in 2008. He was a candidate for the Pakistan People's Party (PPP). He ran from the area of NA-28 Buner. However, he did not win this election. He received 27,532 votes. He was defeated by Abdul Matin Khan.
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (2022–present)
On July 15, 2023, Gohar Ali Khan was chosen as the Chief Election Commissioner for the PTI. He held this role until November 30, 2023. He stepped down because he was nominated to become the party's chairman.
On December 2, 2023, he was elected as the Chairman of the PTI. The previous chairman, Imran Khan, decided not to run again. This was due to some legal issues.
On December 22, 2023, he was briefly removed from his chairman position. This happened because the party's internal elections were declared invalid. However, the Peshawar High Court stopped this order on December 26, 2023. This meant he could continue as chairman.
New elections for the chairman position were announced for March 3, 2024. Gohar Ali Khan was nominated by Imran Khan to run again. He was the only candidate left after others withdrew. So, he was announced as elected without opposition. The official result was declared on March 3, 2024.
Chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf

As the Chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Gohar Ali Khan handles many important tasks. He deals with legal matters and issues within the party. He also helps plan the party's political actions. He often gives press conferences and makes statements for the party. He does this based on directions from PTI founder Imran Khan.
Gohar Khan has overseen important legal cases for the party. These include the Reserved seats case and the Iddat case. He has said that the results of these cases were big wins for PTI and for Pakistan. A main goal for him is the release of Imran Khan. He believes Imran Khan is being held unfairly.
He has also spoken out against the government. He criticized them for allowing phone tapping. He called this "unconstitutional." He has also asked for a new Chief Justice of Pakistan to be appointed. He believes the current Chief Justice, Qazi Faez Isa, should not get an extension.
Gohar Ali Khan has also overseen changes in the party's leadership. These changes were made on the advice of Imran Khan. He has met with Imran Khan several times in Adiala Jail.
In June 2024, there were reports about some PTI-backed members of the National Assembly. They were said to be thinking of leaving the party. This was due to disagreements with the party leadership. Gohar Ali Khan denied these rumors. He called for Omar Ayub Khan to be reinstated as Secretary-General.
In September 2024, he led major protests for PTI in Islamabad. He was arrested and released on the same day. He also criticized the government's plans for new constitutional amendments. He said these changes would harm the Judiciary. Gohar stated that the government was trying to weaken the judiciary. He also said they did not have the right to do so. To oppose these changes, he held meetings with other political leaders.
