Mia Golam Ali Chowdhury Sahib (Bengali: মিঞা গোলাম আলী চৌধুরী সাহেব; 1824 – 7 January 1888) was a rich landlord, also known as a zamindar, from eastern Bengal. He was also a kind person who helped many people. He lived in the 1800s in a place called Faridpur. People also called him Chowdhuri Golam Ali.

Life of Golam Ali Chowdhury

Chowdhury was a powerful landlord in Haturia. This area is now part of the Shariatpur District in Bangladesh. He took over the land from his father, Muhammad Ashuq Mridha.

His land covered large areas in the Faridpur and Bakerganj districts. He was very well-known for his wealth.

His Contributions

Mia Golam Ali Chowdhury cared a lot about education and helping the public. He often gave large amounts of money for these good causes.

He helped the government build a public bridge and a river crossing, called a ghat, in Madaripur. He also helped build other roads in the district. Chowdhury paid for the entire building of Madaripur's first pharmacy. He also gave a lot of money to help build the Barisal Government Entrance School. He even donated ten thousand rupees to the Dacca College Extension Fund.

A poem called Kheya Ghater Majhi talks about the strength and importance of Chowdhury Golam Ali. He also built a mosque in his village, Ghatakhan-Haturia. This mosque has since been rebuilt.

Family and Legacy

Chowdhury passed away on January 7, 1888. He was buried in his village in Ghatakhan (Haturia). His brick grave is still there today. He had a family with sons and daughters.
