Golden, Nebraska facts for kids
Golden was once a small community in Burt County, Nebraska, in the United States. Today, it is known as a ghost town.
What is a Ghost Town?
A ghost town is a place that used to be a town or village, but now has very few or no people living there. Often, the buildings are empty or falling apart. These towns become "ghosts" when people move away, usually because jobs disappear or resources run out.
Golden's Short History
Golden was a very small settlement. It had a post office, which is where people would send and receive mail. The post office opened in 1894. This means people were living and working in Golden at that time. However, the post office did not stay open for long. It closed just six years later, in 1900. When the post office closed, it was a sign that most people had left Golden. This is how Golden became a ghost town.
