Gonzalo Caballero Míguez, born on January 9, 1975, is a Spanish economist and politician. He has been the leader (Secretary-General) of the Socialists' Party of Galicia (PSdeG-PSOE) since 2017.

About Gonzalo Caballero

Gonzalo Caballero was born in Ponteareas, a town in the province of Pontevedra, Spain, on January 9, 1975. His father was a Socialist councillor in their hometown. Gonzalo is also the nephew of Abel Caballero, who was a minister in the Spanish Government and is currently the mayor of Vigo. Both Gonzalo and Abel are members of the Spanish Socialist Workers' Party (PSOE).

Education and Career

Gonzalo Caballero joined the PSOE political party when he was young. He studied Economic and Business Sciences at the University of Vigo. After that, he earned a special degree called a PhD in economics from the same university. He later earned another PhD, this time in political science, from the University of A Coruña. Today, he works as a senior lecturer, teaching Applied Economics at the University of Vigo.

Political Journey

Gonzalo Caballero started his political career in local government. He ran for a seat on the Vigo city council in 2003. Although he wasn't elected at first, he became a city councillor in September 2005. This happened when another councillor left their position, and Gonzalo took their place. He did not run for reelection in 2007.

For some years, Gonzalo had different political ideas from his uncle, Abel Caballero, who became the Mayor of Vigo in 2007. However, Gonzalo has said that these differences were only about politics and didn't affect their personal relationship.

In October 2017, Gonzalo Caballero won the election to become the Secretary-General of the PSdeG-PSOE. He was known as a strong supporter of Pedro Sánchez, another important politician in the PSOE. Gonzalo won this election even though many established leaders, including his uncle Abel, did not support his campaign.

In 2016, Gonzalo was on the list of candidates for the 2016 Galician regional election in Pontevedra. He was not elected at that time. However, he later became a member of the Parliament of Galicia on July 31, 2019, filling a vacant seat.
