What is Goodrich Falls?

Goodrich Falls is a natural waterfall that has been a popular spot for a long time. In the 1800s, people loved to take special 3D pictures, called stereoscopic images, of the falls. Famous photographers like Kilburn Brothers and Nathan W. Pease captured its beauty. Today, New Hampshire Route 16 crosses the river just above the falls.

How Does Goodrich Falls Make Power?

The Goodrich Falls Hydroelectric Plant is a special building that uses the power of the waterfall to create electricity. It was finished in 1935. Two people, Edwin Moody and Phil Robertson, built it. Edwin Moody also owned the Black Mountain Ski Area, which was known as Moody's back then.

Edwin Moody and a local inventor named George Morton used the electricity from the plant to power one of the very first ski lifts in New Hampshire! This helped skiers get up the mountain easily. In 1977, a company called Goodrich Falls Hydroelectric Corporation took over running the plant.

The Story of Honeymoon Bridge
