Goonellabah (GOO-nell-A-bah) is a friendly place in New South Wales, Australia. It's an eastern suburb of the city of Lismore, New South Wales. You can find it right along the Bruxner Highway. It's part of the City of Lismore area.

The original people of this land are the Widjabul people. They are part of the larger Bundjalung nation. They have lived here for a very long time.

The main offices for the City of Lismore are located here. They are on Oliver Avenue. A school called Kadina High School also opened here in 1976.

Goonellabah is a great place for sports! Many local teams play here. You can find teams for football, table tennis, cricket, hockey, and tennis.

What Does "Goonellabah" Mean?

The name Goonellabah comes from an old language. It's from the Yugambeh-Bundjalung language. The word gunel means 'native coral tree'.

In the past, this area had other names too. Some of these names were Wilsons Ridge, Newtown, Paddington, and Lover's Retreat.
