Gordon Allan "Junior" Wilson (born August 13, 1932 – died October 2, 2023) was a talented Canadian ice hockey player. He played as a left wing. While he only played a couple of games in the big leagues, the National Hockey League (NHL), with the Boston Bruins, he had a long and successful career in other professional leagues. His dad, Phat Wilson, was also a famous hockey player and is even in the Hockey Hall of Fame!
Junior Wilson's Hockey Journey
Junior Wilson's professional hockey adventure began with the Hershey Bears. He quickly showed his skill, once scoring four goals and helping with four others in a single game! That's a lot of points!
Early in his career, Junior faced a tough challenge. He hurt his knee badly, tearing a ligament. This injury kept him off the ice for a whole year. But he worked hard to get better and came back strong. After recovering, he went on to play for the Boston Bruins. Most of his career, from 1952 to 1960, was spent playing in minor leagues, which are professional hockey leagues just below the NHL.
Life Beyond the Rink
Junior Wilson was a great athlete in many sports, not just hockey. When he was younger, he also played baseball and basketball. He was truly gifted!
After he stopped playing hockey professionally, Junior started a new career. He opened his own insurance company in Thunder Bay, Ontario. He worked there for many years before fully retiring in 1999. Junior Wilson lived a long life and passed away on October 2, 2023, at the age of 91.
