Gotham City Gauntlet: Escape from Arkham Asylum at RCDB

Gotham City Gauntlet: Escape from Arkham Asylum is a super fun roller coaster at Six Flags New England in Agawam, Massachusetts. It's a special type of ride called a wild mouse coaster. Before it got its cool Batman theme, it was known as the Road Runner Express.

Ride History

Kentucky Kingdom - Road Runner Express
Gotham City Gauntlet: Escape from Arkham Asylum when it was Road Runner Express at Kentucky Kingdom.

This roller coaster first opened in May 2000 at Kentucky Kingdom in Louisville, Kentucky. It was called the Road Runner Express back then. The ride was built where another coaster, The Vampire, used to be. Interestingly, The Vampire also moved to Six Flags New England and became Flashback.

The Road Runner Express operated until the end of 2009. At that time, Six Flags decided to close Kentucky Kingdom after a disagreement with the Kentucky State Fair Board. As part of a deal, the Road Runner Express was taken apart and moved to Six Flags New England.

In 2011, the coaster reopened with its new name, Gotham City Gauntlet: Escape From Arkham Asylum. It was built on the spot where a Batman Stunt Show arena used to be. This area was also planned for a different Batman-themed roller coaster, but that plan was canceled. The Gauntlet ride is very similar to the canceled Batman coaster design.

About the Ride

Gotham City Gauntlet: Escape From Arkham Asylum is a classic wild mouse roller coaster. These rides are known for their sharp, sudden turns that make you feel like you're going to fall off the track! Each car on the ride can hold four people.

The highest point of the coaster is about 49 feet (15 meters) tall. During the ride, you'll experience 17 turns and several drops. This coaster is great for families and younger kids, but it's not a "junior" coaster. Riders need to be at least 46 inches (1.17 meters) tall to ride.

Ride Theme

The ride has a cool Batman theme. Each car is designed to look like a different villain from the Batman stories. The idea is that you are helping your chosen villain escape from Arkham Asylum. When the ride was at Kentucky Kingdom, it had a different theme based on The Looney Tunes characters.
