History of Cavite's Governors
For a long time during the Spanish rule, Cavite was managed by an official called the alcalde mayor. This person was the representative of the Governor-General in Manila. The alcalde mayor had a lot of power. They handled all executive, judicial, and law-making duties in Cavite.
Later, in 1847, the title of alcalde mayor was changed. It became politico-military governor. At this point, the governor no longer had judicial (court-related) powers. Colonel Fernando Pargas was the last Spanish politico-military governor. After him, three Filipino politico-military governors took over during the First Philippine Republic.
